Goodbye to all that

10 years almost to day that we started clearing bush to build Ras Mbisi we have learnt that our baby Ras Mbisi has been razed to the ground by a terrible fire. To say that we are heartbroken would be an understatement. For the staff and all those who put so much into it, for those that made memories there and yes, for us too. Even though we had long since left our hearts were still very much there, all that work, gone.

Au revoir, but not goodbye

The Vickers have left the building, well the lodge, which is under new ownership. Michelle can be found over on wordpress at http://citybushisland.wordpress.com/ . At some point she'll come back and write up the whole backstory to Ras Mbisi from start to finish, but right now it's still a little too raw...

Hippo

Ever since we first arrived on Mafia, we have been looking for the elusive rumoured Hippos that are reputed to live around the lakes at Chungaruma close to Ras Mbisi. We've seen droppings, we've had staff tell us they'd seen them that morning, I've seen the skeletons at the Fisheries Office in Kilindoni. Never seen one. However 2 guests that stayed in January this year did, and today they sent me a photo, here it is. They do exist :)

Swim with whale sharks

After the first couple of minutes the camera goes underwater - amazing video of a swim with the whalesharks from Ras Mbisi Lodge.
